相隔14年美閣員訪台 馬：努力有成果

馬英九總統上午在總統府接見美國環保署署長吉娜‧麥卡錫（Gina McCarthy），這是自2000年美國運輸部長史雷特（Rodney Slater）後，14年來首位訪台的閣員，馬總統在開場致詞時強調，「閣下訪問對我們來說具有重要」，他六年前上任後，致力恢復兩國高層互信，麥卡錫來訪證實六年來努力有了成效，希望此行不但為兩國環保合作展開新頁，也為兩國全面合作往前邁進堅實基礎。

馬總統說，四天以前是台灣關係法立法35週年，我們看到美國國會特別通過決議，重申對台灣關係法的重視跟承諾，尤其是跟台灣關係法有密切關係的六項保證，顯示兩國在TRA實施35年後日益堅強。在過去六年當中，台灣有機會參加暌違38年的WHA，和暌違42年的ICAO，過程中獲得美國極大協助。雙方在環保、再生能源、氣候變遷方面，都還有許多議題可以共同合作。
