佛羅里達鯊魚研究計畫 (FPSR)的報告指出，有關太平洋東北部大白鯊數量的新研究顯示，大白鯊的數量可能正在增加，而不是瀕臨絕種。

領導這項研究的FPSR主任伯吉斯說：「大白鯊的數量已回復到豐富的水準，這是件好消息。」該研究團隊的報告16日刊登在PLOS ONE學報上。

伯吉斯說，新的研究結果扭轉了早先以為大白鯊已瀕臨絕種的印象。史丹福大學2011年的研究報告曾經表示，大白鯊的數量已降到非常低，結果引發保育機構要求各州和聯邦當局將大白鯊列入瀕臨絕種生物的保育名單上。

伯吉斯將大白鯊數量的成長歸功於聯邦40年來對海洋哺乳生物的保護。

伯吉斯說，史丹福的研究團隊計算加州中部海岸的成年與將近成年大白鯊數量只有219隻，這個數字讓他們大吃一驚，並決定加以驗證。

伯吉斯的研究表示，史丹福團隊不當地宣稱這219隻代表整個東北太平洋成年與近成年大白鯊數量的半數，這個地區涵蓋從阿拉斯加到中美洲的廣大海洋。由10位國際鯊魚科學家組成的伯吉斯團隊，於是開始檢測史丹福的資料與方法。他們估計整個加州沿岸的大白鯊數量就超過2000隻，並且還在增加之中。

伯吉斯說，史丹福的研究團隊只根據在法拉隆群島和托瑪爾斯角捕食海獅與海豹的大白鯊，來假設大白鯊的數量，卻沒有把在其他地區獵食的鯊魚，以及數量顯然不斷增加的幼鯊列入考量。

6月是畢業的季節，金鼎國小黃偉達放棄一生唯一與小學同學畢業旅行的機會，在家幫媽媽做麵線，令鄰里讚許不已；黃媽媽表示，偉達很懂事獨立，以後不會成為「媽寶」。

早上6點多，偉達就已起床玩平板電腦遊戲，因為他必需趁著媽媽忙做早餐的空檔玩遊戲，不然黃媽媽一開始製作手工麵線，他就必需全程協助。

「偉達，麵團抬出來！」、「偉達，麵線拿出去晒太陽！」，13歲的偉達雖然年紀還小，卻是媽媽的好幫手，一個早上忙進忙出的，只為幫媽媽早些做完當天的工作，多賺點錢、貼補家用。

黃偉達表示，金鼎國小畢業班有28位學生，只有4人沒有參加；畢業旅行雖然一輩子只有一次，但媽媽因為要工作未能陪伴，所以索性就不去參加，以後再陪媽媽一起去玩，才更有意義。

李姓鄰居表示，現代父母對子女呵護有加，要小孩做功課就像要他的命，做家事更是難如登天，偉達放棄畢業旅行遊玩的機會，相當難得。

黃媽媽表示，偉達跟別的小孩一樣也愛玩，功課雖然中等，但卻很懂事，知道身為長子要幫忙分擔家務、照顧弟弟；從小就灌輸他獨立自主的觀念，如今表現令人欣慰。
